Am I the only one who does not hate Suzaku?

He’s not my favorite or anything, and I don’t particularly love him, but I understand him. It’s Lelouch who’s mentally messed up (though I love him :D).

Seriously, I would prefer Suzaku’s method of freeing Japan than Zero’s. He opted for less violence, while Zero’s way is to regain Japan through violence. Though Suzaku’s method may only have around 40% chance or less of succeeding, but with Zero’s method, chances are only around 60%, even with the Geass and the Black Knights. Britannia is a HUGE empire, they can’t possibly defeat them that easily and tons of people would be expected to die. Those lives don’t have to be sacrificed if there’s still another way. Besides, it’s not assured yet that Suzaku’s method won’t work. So I would opt for the non-violent approach.

BUT! That would make for a boring story. Code Geass is great the way it is, even if it’s not up to par with my personal ideals. It’s a good thing that isn’t happening in real life (or not where I’m at).

I’m just saying I have 0% hatred for Suzaku.

Calculatingly Cool: Mikagami Tokiya

Mikagami Tokiya
Flame of Recca

Mikagami Tokiya

Mikagami is neither sweet nor affectionate. He doesn’t have a sense of humor and he hardly ever smiles. But don’t judge him just yet. He may not be that type of guy but there’s more to him than meets the eye.

Mikagami is serious, observant, confident, and intelligent. Everything he does is for a purpose. When he talks, he talks frankly and straight to the point – no beating around the bush. He is always sure of himself, and unlike reckless Recca, he thinks before he acts. He is tough and skilled and an expert in handling the ensui. He is silent at times but it’s mostly because he is either observing the enemy, planning a strategy, or both.

Rash & Reckless: Shun Ukiya

Shun Ukiya
Gatekeepers

Shun Ukiya

Shun Ukiya follows his gut instincts. Possessing the Gate of Wind, he is powerful and knows how to deal with it. And his “Ultra Whirlwind Slash” and “Vacuum Missile” attacks are just perfect for such an attitude. He is just as rash as his attacks and as reckless as the wind.

Shun doesn’t think much about strategy. He is not a future planner, either. To the immortal gatekeeper Yukino Houjou he says, “To me, what matters is the now. Right now, you exist in front of me. I can see myself in your eyes.” Such wise words, and quite fitting too, for someone who doesn’t think much.

Of course, it’s just reasonable to say that Shun is not really serious about anything. But he’s quite deeper than one might think. As leader of the Gatekeepers Far East branch, he is also aware of his duties: “As captain, everything is my responsibility.”

Shun Ukiya may be impulsive enough to use a faulty unpredictable robot, but he never hesitates to face a powerful merciless villain, and as a result, save the day. There’s no need for strategy for that – just one guy who’s determined enough, brave enough, and crazy enough, to do it all.

Lord Of Cowardice: Hamdo

Hamdo
Now and Then, Here and There

Hamdo

Hail to Hamdo, the Ruler of Heliwood! Well, if he’s a ruler, then what the heck is he doing in this category? Cowards do not become rulers… right? Uh… Let me get back to that in a minute.

First, let’s discuss on Hamdo’s work ethics: he only thinks about himself and doesn’t care about anyone else unless, of course, they can do something good for him. Next, let’s discuss Hamdo’s skills and tactics: he can shoot a gun, he can squeeze fruits in a very dramatic manner, he can kill a cat, he can strangle people… those are some of his skills. But I don’t know about tactics. He doesn’t seem to have any sense of intricate strategy. He does not measure up the evidences before doing action and he uses his emotions in his decisions.

Furthermore, let’s discuss Hamdo’s mental stability: does the word “insane” mean anything to you? I mean, one moment he seems fine, and the next moment, he’s screaming and shouting like an moron, especially when he doesn’t get what he wants. He’s like a spoiled brat!

Now, let’s discuss how the heck Heliwood came to be a well-oiled machine with a leader like that? The answer is… Abelia – Heliwood’s backbone, and Hamdo’s as well. When something goes wrong, Hamdo goes, “Abelia!” When he needs something done, he goes, “Abelia!” When he’s being attacked: “Abelia!” When he wants something: “Abelia!” It’s all “Abelia! Abelia! Abelia!” And, Abelia, like an idiot, does everything for him – makes sure things run smoothly. And that’s why Heliwood is a major terror. That’s also why Hamdo’s a major scaredy-cat. He’s got Abelia by his side… what more can a guy ask for?

But morons like that never succeed. Even moronic rulers. In the end, when Abelia finally saw the light, there’s nothing left for Hamdo but lots of water with which to drown in, and he’s nothing more but a man with a big C-H-I-C-K-E-N stamped on his forehead (not literal).

Boys Don’t Cry: Nabuca

Nabuca
Now and Then, Here and There

Nabuca

A soldier is not what a child as young as Nabuca should be. He should be a student in school or out playing with friends. But after being kidnapped and forced to be a soldier in Heliwood, he bears weapons and raids villages. Cool and calm, he is the leader among his fellow soldiers, who are also kidnapped children, and he deals with them strictly, careful to follow military rules. He gives a mature facade, but he is only a child. He stands tall and serious, but he is only a child. He tries to be strong, but he is only a child.

Boys don’t cry. Yet Nabuca, throughout his life, hardly ever gave a hint of a smile. He hardly ever mourned, hardly ever complained. Young as he is, he has to deal with moral questions, with right or wrong, with life and death. He’s pulled a trigger so many times, all for the sake of such empty promises of being able to go back home – a home which no longer really existed. He has faced so much suffering, seen so much suffering, caused so much suffering, but he is only a child. Such irony it is, seeing a child hold a gun so naturally, pull the trigger so naturally. But he is only a child. Nabuca, until his death, is only a child.

Born To Fight: Sagara Sanosuke

Sagara Sanosuke
Rurouni Kenshin

Sanosuke Sagara

Here’s a list of Sano’s hobbies: gambling, eating, spying, criticizing Kenshin, making fun of Yahiko, getting whacked by Kaoru, chewing a fishbone, and… punching villains to the brink of unconsciousness.

So why is Sano in the “Born to Fight” category when he should be in the “Mr. Lazybones With No Real Hobbies” category? Well, aside from the fact that that category does not exist, Sano has a splendid fighting skill with a good sense of logic to match. His greatest asset is his strength, which is reflected in his lethal punches. Side by side with Kenshin, and sometimes Kaoru and Yahiko too, the opponents get knocked out with quite painful injuries. His strong fists are his pride and he’s always ready to join in the fight when the situation calls for it. And he enjoys it too. But like Kenshin, Sano is a great believer of life and however he fights, he does not wish to bring death to his opponents. And whenever his friends are in danger, he will always try to find a way to get them out of it.

Sano may be lazy and he may not have any real hobbies, but when it comes to the fight scene, he’s one heck of a fighter.
